Welcome! My name is Neil Johnson, and I’m an Advanced Instructor in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech.

What the clumsy title means is that my primary role in the department is to teach undergraduates. Mostly these are introductory courses like Geos 1004 (Physical Geology) and Geos 1034 (Earth’s Natural Hazards), but I do teach the upper-level course on mineral deposits (Geos 4624). When needed, I have also offered other upper-level courses.

In order to make the start of semesters a bit more efficient, I have put this Website together to provide some general information about the classes.

I do engage in some research and serve as the minerals curator for the Museum of the Geosciences, so if you have an interest in these areas, you should visit my departmental page to find out more.
